Award-winning composer

On 22 June 2013 Brett was awarded 2nd prize in a composition competition for his choral work “A Prayer for Divine Love” for SATB and organ on a text by St Francis of Assisi. The work was premiered the same day at a performance in Canberra. This was the same competition Brett won in 2012.

Another Premiere

Come to the University of Sydney this Sunday 15th July to hear Brett’s new Carillon work at the 2pm Carillon recital. The Quadrangle is a good place to hear from.

Stacey Yang, an Honorary Asssistant Carillonist of the University, plays all original compositions for carillon. This will include Brett’s Variations on ‘Bow Brickall’. Bow Brickall is a hymn tune written by Sir Sydney Nicholson, founder of the RSCM, and also son of Sir Charles Nicholson, first Chancellor in whose honour this piece is written.

Two premieres in two days!

You can hear two of Brett’s new organ works premiered soon:

1. Voluntary on ‘Tallis’ Canon’ will be premiered at a concert in Wesley Uniting Church in Forrest ACT on Saturday 23 June at 2pm. The concert includes live and recorded performances. This will be one of the latter.

2. Passacaglia for the Epiphany will be premiered by organist Kurt Ison at a concert at St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney on Sunday 24 June at 4pm. This work was commissioned for Kurt’s recital at Westminster Abbey in London on the Feast of the Epiphany in January. The Sydney performance is the world premiere.

I hope you can join us at these concerts!

New Carillon Composition

You can hear my composition Etude for Carillon performed this Sunday 18 March at 2pm in a concert at the University of Sydney, played by Honorary Assistant University Carillonist Stacey Yang.

The best place to hear the carillon is in the main Quadrangle, but many people in the general area will hear it!

Enjoy!

Carillon works

After a recent visit to and play of the National Carillon in Canberra I was encourged to write for this massive and impressive instrument.   I have now written one work with a commission for another for a Sydney University Carillon performance in June.   Stay tuned for the premiere date!
